TEAM SPFT entered the national finals of The Deloitte Tax Championship 2018

Deloitte Tax Championship is an international competition organized by Shanghai Deloitte Tax Ltd. and Deloitte Tax Research Foundation for university students across Greater China region. It aims to promote the interaction between the government, academia, industry and taxpayers to cultivate insightful, integrated and innovative talents. The competition has been held for fifteen years since 2004 and has attracted more than 3,000 elite students.

Deloitte Tax Championship is open to students from invited universities. Each university shall nominate minimum 4 and maximum 20 students to join the Phase I Regional Competition in which 50 universities in the mainland and 21 universities in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan were invited. According to the ranking in preliminary competition, 9 participating teams form the mainland (4 contestants each team) and 4 participating teams from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan were promoted to the national finals of second phase. The team of School of Public Finance and Taxation (SPFT) has made it to the national finals in all previous sessions, ranking first in 2006 and 2016.

The Phase I Regional Competition was in multiple-choice format, focusing on PRC tax and relevant regulations, and also tests students' English proficiency and logic capacity. The SPFT received the invitation in early May 2018. Via the so-called "1+1+1" selection consist of competitions + written examinations + interviews, the school then selected 16 students out of more than 200 applicants for the preliminary competition.

During the competition, the SPFT coordinated human and material resources, applied for special venues, assigned full-time teachers, and offered professional training of corporate restructuring, tax planning, tax collection and management for the participants. With continuous efforts of teachers and students, four students were selected to form TEAM SPFT representing Southwestern University of Finance and Taxation and they proceeded intoto the national finals with excellent marks.
